An Acupuncture Session

An Acupuncture Session Your initial visit will last approximately one and a half hours with follow up visits lasting forty-five minutes to an hour.  This time will be spent conducting an interview based in Traditional Chinese Medicine, exploring your needs and the health of all of your body-systems.  Denise will make a physical assessment, visually inspect your tongue and feel your pulse to aid in diagnosis.  Once a diagnosis has been reached, a course of treatment will begin.. Acupuncture Treatment While lying comfortably on a massage table, the treatment given will last for 15 to 45 minutes ~ depending on each individual. Very fine, sterile needles are inserted at appropriate points, Qi is accessed and the bodys energy pattern realigns. The Qi sensations can be both subtle and profound.  Most people experience an overall sense of well-being and relaxation during treatments.  The sensation of needle insertion is sometimes described as a slight pinch and many people barely feel it at all. Follow-up Care Additional herbal medicine, nutrition or specific guidelines may be useful to hasten your healing process.  A typical course of treatment is one session a week for six to ten weeks.  However, the number of necessary treatments is dependent on each individual and the severity of their condition.

Herbal Medicine

Herbal Medicine

The medicinal benefits of herbs have been known for centuries.  In China, traditional herbal remedies are still the backbone of medicine, and although we rely heavily on modern research for new cures for some diseases, herbal medicines are also fundamental to Western society’s treatment of illnesses.
Denise uses both Eastern and Western herbs  after assessing her clients in the tradition of Chinese Medicine.  In this tradition herbs are most often combined in formulation to effectively address the whole person.  Each individual herb is honored for having it’s unique healing effect and property and plays its role in balancing the individual who uses it.  In combination, the formula can address very complex health issues as well as bring out and enhance one’s already healthy qualities, just as spices can bring out the flavor of a meal.    The proper combination of the herbs increases the potency of the formula on the whole and helps each individual herb bring balance to the body.
This personalized approach allows herbal medicine to be so versatile that it can treat almost any condition that a patient might take to their doctor.  Modern researchers are finding that herbal medicines are often safer, less expensive, and at least as effective as prescription drugs.
Some herbal formulations have stood the test of time and can work for the vast majority, Yet there is  still a need for customized formulations to address the uniqueness of each person and their particular journey toward health. . At Olympia Family Acupuncture, Denise will fine-tune your herbal formulas and protocols to meet  each individuals needs and make the appropriate adjustments as you heal  along the way
